Sweet Caroline

I decided I needed a little warm-up before getting down to business, so here it is: A full analysis of two-and-a-half minutes of the awesomeness that is Glee.

We all knew that Glee was full of crazy love triangle madness. But I ask you, who the hell saw that coming? This preview of one of next week’s musical numbers on the official Neil Diamond website (and, of course, YouTube.*)And instead of the as-advertised glimpse at Mark Salling getting some solo time, the most amazing part of this clip is the way that it has managed in very little time to do initiate a complete paradigm shift for the average Gleek.

We knew Rachel liked Finn. We knew Finn was more than a little partial to Rachel. We knew that Finn and Quinn were together. We knew that Puck was actually the father of Quinn’s baby. We knew Santana broke up with Puck.

And what do we know now? We know that the writers over at Glee are either insane or ingenious…or possibly both. Because whatever we thought was going to happen over the rest of the season in regards to romantic plot, well, now it looks like it’s sort of not. Or, at the very least, not in the way we were expecting.

I am so pleased.

(My favorite part of the entire clip? When Will reaches over to clap Finn on the shoulder. Priceless.)

And, while I loathe YouTube comments as much as the next thinking person, I have to give credit where credit is due. They are correct: the mowhawk is really not an attractive look.

*Speaking of YouTube, I used that video instead of the official preview on the Neil Diamond website because I couldn’t get the official preview video to embed properly. It is still at the website if you want to see it without potentially breaking copyright laws. Because obviously, as a web-using citizen, you’ve never ever done that before.

As a Jew, I find it hilarious that Mark Salling, of the Christian rock band Jericho, is playing a Jew. That being said, ain’t Jew love adorable? I was excited about the Puck/Rachel hookup since I first heard about it, but this clip made things even more intriguing: Santana and Finn are jealous (not of the same person, of course), while Quinn’s attraction to Puck really shows itself, lending to my theory that they will eventually end up together (I mean, he did say he would be glad to help raise the baby) clearing the way for Finn and Rachel. But in the meantime, this should be fun!
